Fun Holiday Family Activities

Fun Holiday Family Activities

The family activity is a wonderful, humbling, and dreaded time. It’s wonderful because everyone comes together to celebrate the holidays, humbling because of the variation of ages, and dreaded because they can quickly become snooze fests. This holiday season, we’re gonna try and liven things up.

But we have to lay down one ground rules first. We all know it: no cell phones. Sure, someone should have a cellphone just to make coordination easier if extended families are invited, but cell phones distract us attempt to communicate. The ability to sit in silence while in the company of others (especially family members) is a dying art. Set aside the cell phones, or better yet, get people to leave them in the house, should be a priority.

With the ground rules out of the way, let’s talk about things to do:

The Classics

Let’s talk about the classics before we go deeper into the more exotic things. The classics are everything that bring a family together: they’re inclusive, non-discriminatory, attention requiring, and time consuming. The classics are, cooking, board games, games outside, and more. Sure, you can go to the movies together, but at no point does it require a family member to engage another. There’s something magical about the classics. They should always be considered.

Museum

The Museum is a place where you can really get involved. You wouldn’t normally associate museums with family time, but the ability to educate yourself and your little ones is priceless. Even teenagers know the value of museums offer. When approached correctly, museums expose everyone to the commonality, community, and family of our species. If you can get that to narrow down to the commonality, community, and family within your own family, then you’ve gone to the right museum.

Trampoline Park

Imagine a room. Now imagine it the size of a gymnasium. Now imagine with cushions and trampolines. Now imagine you jumping around on it. Whether you’re 70 or 7, the idea of jumping around and defying gravity is something that should be embraced. When we stuff ourselves silly with all of the food we consume, some extra fun exercise is a great idea. Many trampoline parks offer group activities such as dodge ball and touch football. A place like a trampoline park is where stories are made.

Go To A Sporting Event

Rooting for the same team is always a good time. Your family is in this endeavor together. You can share moments, split a hot dog (or veggie dog if that’s your preference), maybe even have a beer or two if the kids are old enough. Make a day out of it by tailgating. Buy matching jerseys, or that nice ball to play catch when the weather warms up.

Go To A Parade

Going to a parade is a great family activity to bring everyone together. New Year’s and Christmas parades are traditions in big cities, and even smaller towns are known to have them. This is something that can be watched, but it is also an experience. Unlike any old movie, a parade (like a sporting event) is a shared event where people can talk.

Now go to get that family together!
